About Ecce sacerdos
Anton Bruckner’s powerful motet Ecce sacerdos magnus is a fitting choice for services celebrating a priest or bishop, or for ordinations. The Latin text, a standard liturgical antiphon, describes a great high priest who pleased God and was greatly honoured. The composer’s SATB setting masterfully conveys the solemnity and grandeur of the occasion, with rich harmonies and a majestic unfolding of the text. The addition of the Gloria Patri brings the motet to a resounding conclusion, suitable for a significant moment in the church calendar or a special dedication.
