About Ecce magi donant
Daniel Friderici's motet Ecce magi donant is written for two sopranos. The Latin text describes the gifts brought by the Magi to the infant Christ: gold for glory, frankincense for prayers, and myrrh for the cross. This sacred motet, in the tradition of Renaissance and early Baroque motet composition, sets these symbolic gifts for a high, clear vocal texture. The intimate voicing is well-suited for smaller ensembles or for highlighting the beauty of the text's imagery.
