1. Poiche legato il piè mi tien si forte,
Raggion non giama sorte,
E d'or l'aspra catena,
Di gir mi vieta ove il desio mi mena.
Vorrei gran Duca trasformarmi in vento,

About E ch'entro il carro
This secular Italian madrigal for SSATB voices paints a vivid scene of longing and envy. The opening lines describe a speaker held captive, unable to follow their desires, wishing to transform into the wind to reach their beloved. The second stanza shifts to a more celebratory tone, speaking of a joyful day spent with a cherished son, whose beauty is likened to the arrival of spring or celestial bodies. The third stanza, however, returns to the theme of unfulfilled yearning as the speaker imagines their beloved amidst a chariot of elect spirits, singing with them, while the speaker remains distant and consumed by envy. Pomponio Nenna’s music would have captured the emotional intensity of this text, characteristic of the madrigal tradition.
