Dunque amate reliquie by Claudio Monteverdi — Lyrics
About Dunque amate reliquie
Monteverdi's SSATB madrigal Dunque amate reliquie sets a lament for the lost Corinna. The text expresses the singer's overwhelming grief, a sea of tears for the beloved's cold stone. He calls upon Echo to repeat his sorrowful cries of "Corinna" and laments "Alas Corinna! Alas Death! Alas Tomb!". The sorrowful words continue, urging that speech give way to tears. The lament concludes with Glauco praying for peace for Corinna in heaven and for the honored tomb and sacred earth that holds her.
