Dueil double dueil

This chanson by Tielman Susato, set for STB voices, opens with a sense of profound sorrow. The three-part texture creates a close interplay between the voices, mirroring the text's expression of deep grief and weariness. The French lyrics speak of 'double grief,' 'sadness,' and 'enemies of pleasure,' urgently requesting solace from languor and pain. The composer vividly conveys the desire for an end to suffering, making this a poignant reflection on despair within the secular Renaissance chanson tradition. The music's directness and emotional intensity make it a compelling choice for choirs seeking expressive, text-driven repertoire.
