About Ductus est Jesus

Francisco Guerrero was one of the most celebrated Spanish composers of the late 16th century, a master of sacred polyphony whose motets often draw on Gospel narratives. This setting of the Latin text, Ductus est Jesus, describes the Temptation of Christ in the wilderness. The SATB choir vividly portrays the biblical story, from Jesus being led into the desert by the Spirit to the Tempter's insidious suggestions and Jesus's firm replies, drawing on scripture to resist. Guerrero’s music captures the drama and spiritual intensity of this pivotal moment, offering a powerful choral meditation on faith and resilience. It is a superb example of Renaissance sacred motet writing.
