Du bon du cueur ma chiere dame

Imagine a gathering of friends in a Renaissance court, the air filled with conversation and the gentle strumming of lutes. It is in such a convivial setting that this charming French chanson, Du bon du cueur ma chiere dame, would have been sung. The composer is unknown, but the music speaks of a sincere and ardent devotion. The text, a plea from the heart, expresses humble supplication to a lady, with vows of faithful service. Composed for three female voices (SSA), this secular song captures the spirit of courtly love with its delicate melodic lines and expressive harmonies. It offers a delightful opportunity for a treble choir to explore the elegant vocal writing characteristic of the chanson genre.
