About Donò Licori a Tirsi
This delightful Italian madrigal paints a charming pastoral scene. Licori, a shepherdess, offers a rose to Bacchus, looking so beautiful that she herself appears as a rose. The shepherd, overcome with love, sighs and questions his own worthiness to receive such a precious gift from the giver. Ruggiero Giovannelli’s SSATB setting captures the delicate sentiment of the text with exquisite polyphonic writing, typical of the secular madrigal tradition of the late Renaissance.
