Donna, voi vi credete by Scipione Dentice — Lyrics
About Donna, voi vi credete
Scipione Dentice was a composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque. This is a secular madrigal for SATTB voices, sung in Italian. The text, by Giovanni Battista Guarini, speaks playfully of love and loss. The poet addresses a lady who believes she has stolen his heart by taking away her love. He dismisses this idea, asserting that he is more alive now that she is gone, having been dead before. This madrigal explores the paradox of finding new life through the end of a relationship.
