Balbi’s Donna, l’imagin vostra is a secular Italian madrigal for double choir (SAT.SATB,SST.SATB). The music opens with a striking interplay of voices, setting the scene for the text’s vivid imagery. The poet describes a lady, finding in her image all the beauty of the heavens: her eyes are the sun, her hair the stars, the moon is on her brow, and her breast hides the Milky Way. Her sweet words are divine harmonies that can calm the winds, while graces and cupids play among her rosy cheeks.
