Donna gentil by Giovanni Battista Locatello — Lyrics
About Donna gentil
This Italian canzonetta for three-part women's voices vividly expresses the singer's devotion to a 'gentle lady'. She is their sun, and they are the heliotrope, wilting without her radiance. The text implores her not to hide, as her absence brings death. The singer insists they can look nowhere else, turning and turning towards her light. If that light is absent, they feel they are dying, their eyes filling with tears, their form fading like a flower in the grass, consumed by bitter pain.
