About Domine non est exaltatum a3
This sacred motet by Orlando di Lasso, Domine non est exaltatum, is written for a three-part choir (STB) singing in Latin. The text, from Psalm 131, expresses humility and reliance on God. It begins with David's song of ascent and his plea against pride: 'Lord, my heart is not exalted, nor mine eyes lofty... If I was not humble in spirit, but exalted my soul, then my soul was as a weaned child.' The motet concludes with a hopeful affirmation: 'Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for evermore.' This setting is suitable for services within the liturgical calendar where themes of humility and steadfast faith are central.
