About Domine, ne in furore
This motet for double choir (ATB.SATB) sets a Latin text drawn from Psalm 6. The opening plea, 'Domine, ne in furore tuo arguas me', petitions God not to rebuke or chastise in anger. The composer then moves to a heartfelt cry for mercy and healing, reflecting the singer's infirmity and distress. The latter part of the text shifts to a prayer for the departed, asking for eternal rest and perpetual light. Ottavio Vernizzi's setting would serve well in a service of penitence or remembrance, its rich textures and fervent expression lending weight to the devotional texts.
