Domine Deus omnipotens

Thomas Crecquillon was a prolific composer of motets in the Franco-Flemish tradition. This sacred Latin motet, Domine Deus omnipotens, is set for SAATTB or SATTBarB voices. The text is a prayer of confession and supplication. It begins with a plea to God, acknowledging that the righteous have no need of repentance, but the singer, a miserable sinner, does. The singer then confesses their sins, comparing them to the grains of sand on the seashore, and declares themselves unworthy to gaze upon the heights of heaven. The motet concludes with a plea to the Holy Trinity for mercy.
