About Domine ad adjuvandum, Op. II, No. 1
Valentin Rathgeber was a German composer and organist of the Baroque era. His motet Domine ad adjuvandum, for SATB choir, is a setting of Latin liturgical text. The opening "Deus, in adjutorium meum intende" is the traditional introit antiphon for Vespers. The text includes the "Gloria Patri" and concludes with "Alleluia", or a seasonal substitute appropriate for Septuagesima to Easter. Rathgeber's music likely provides a vibrant and dramatic setting for this important devotional text, typical of German sacred music of the period.
