Dolci baci e soavi

Leone Leoni's Dolci baci e soavi is a rich example of the Italian madrigal tradition. Composed for SSATB voices, the work sets a text that overflows with passionate declarations of love. The lyrics speak of sweet and gentle kisses, signs of true love, so intensely felt that the soul experiences immense joy. The singer expresses a desire to die while kissing, believing that Clori's kisses would bring about such a blissful end. Leoni's setting captures the sensuous and emotional intensity of this Renaissance secular poetry, making it a compelling choice for experienced choirs.
