About Dolci alpestre parole
This Italian madrigal paints a pastoral scene: a beautiful young shepherdess sings sweet mountain words while gathering herbs and flowers. She adorns herself with fruit and violets, and carries fresh milk. The narrator, filled with chaste thoughts of Love, is suddenly startled by a hissing serpent. The shepherdess cries out in fear, flees into his arms, and in that moment, he loses his life, overwhelmed by love and terror. This piece for SSTTB voices captures the dramatic narrative with poignant Italian text.
