About Divertimento
Amidst the purple heath where the Mark and Aa rivers meet, lies the proud city of Breda, praised through the ages. This is the city of the south, its bells ringing out the call for Breda to advance. Paul van Gulick sets this patriotic text for SATB voices in his Divertimento. The Dutch lyrics express a deep affection for Breda, celebrating its beauty and calling for its progress. This secular work, part of a larger cantata form, offers a vibrant musical setting for this ode to the city.
