Dios itlaçonantzine

Hernando Franco was a significant composer in 16th-century Mexico, a leading figure in the development of sacred music in the New World. His motet Dios itlaçonantzine, for SATB choir, is a beautiful example of the indigenous musical traditions blending with European sacred forms. Sung in Nahuatl, the text is a Marian devotion, praising Mary as God's beloved Mother and eternal Virgin. The choir is asked to pray to her, that she may intercede for them before her precious son, Jesus Christ, in heaven.
