DINWENE ME RAN YEBELE by Fejiro Adhaka — Lyrics
About DINWENE ME RAN YEBELE
"Dinwene Meranyebele" is a solemn and heartfelt setting of the Kyrie composed by Fejiro Adhaka. Sung in Igbo, the words carry the traditional plea for God's mercy—"Lord, have mercy on us"—making it a fitting piece for the Penitential Rite at the beginning of Mass. The score is explicitly marked "Larghetto with feelings," and that gentle, reverent pacing is exactly what brings the prayer to life in the choir loft.
The piece is arranged in four-part harmony and built around a cyclical, flowing structure that feels very natural to sing. The choir repeats the central plea "meranyebele" across the voices, building a sense of earnest contrition before moving into the "Christi" (Christ, have mercy) section. Following the traditional liturgical form, the music features a "Da Capo al fine" that returns the choir to the opening invocation. This cyclical repetition allows the singers to lead the congregation into a deep spirit of reflection and preparation for the Liturgy of the Word ahead.
