Dimmi per gratia amore

Andrea Rota's Dimmi per gratia amore is a secular madrigal for SATB choir, written in Italian. The text explores the complex emotional landscape of love, questioning where the beloved's heart truly lies. The singer pleads with love itself to reveal whether his affection is reciprocated, noting that his lady seems pleased when he confesses his love and rejoices with him. However, she also weeps and sighs if another admirer gazes upon her. This polyphonic setting captures the delicate interplay of emotions inherent in the Renaissance madrigal tradition, with the voices weaving together to express the lyrical lament and its accompanying uncertainties.
