About Die wilde Rose
Friedrich Hegar's Die wilde Rose is a setting for TTBB male choir, written in German. This secular partsong opens with a gentle, flowing musical depiction of a leaf from a wild rose, carried on the breeze and then submerged by waves. The text then shifts to a young girl, perhaps the personification of the rose itself, who sat joyfully by the wayside, dancing and leaning playfully on her companion's arm. The music captures her blossoming and burning desire, which ultimately fades, leaving only the memory of its passionate flame. Hegar's setting invites the choir to explore the expressive qualities of the text, from delicate atmospheric moments to passionate outbursts.
