Die Jugend by Adrien Boieldieu — Lyrics
1. Fröhlicher Jugendsinn
füllt uns die Brust;
leicht durch das Leben hin
folgt mir die Lust!
wenn uns die Veilchen blühn,
wenn über frisches Grün
wir durch den Frühling ziehn,
fühlen wir Lust, fühlen wir Lust.
Schaut umher! Nur Blumen stehn
auf den Pfaden, die wir gehen.
Wie so mild in Frühlingspracht
uns der blaue Himmel lacht.

About Die Jugend
Die Jugend, a secular German part-song for SSA voices, captures the vibrant spirit of youth. The text paints a picture of carefree days spent in the blooming spring, where lightheartedness and joy fill the chest. It encourages embracing life's pleasures as one wanders through fresh greenery and under a smiling blue sky. The second part of the text introduces a thoughtful shift, urging the singers to act diligently and do good deeds. It contrasts the fleeting nature of spring's bloom with the lasting contentment found in fulfilling actions, suggesting that the joy of good deeds will provide a gentler repose when winter eventually arrives. This piece beautifully balances youthful exuberance with a gentle call to mindful action.
