Dic nobis Maria

The Easter sequence Victimae paschali laudes is here adapted by Giovanni Bassano in a vibrant SSATTB motet. The text recounts the Resurrection story, beginning with the sacrifice of praise and the reconciliation of sinners through Christ's sacrifice. It poses the question to Mary, 'Tell us, Mary, what did you see on the road?' and her joyous response, 'Christ's sepulchre, the living, and the glory of the risen one; angelic witnesses, the shroud and the clothes.' The motet asserts that Christ's hope has risen and will precede his followers into Galilee, contrasting the truth of Mary with the deceitful crowds of the Jews. This sacred Latin work calls for mercy from the victorious King, Amen, Alleluia.
