Deutsche Weihnachtsmesse

This setting of the Mass Ordinary is comprised of four movements for SATB choir and organ. The music is predominantly homophonic and often declamatory in character, particularly in the Gloria and Credo, where the text is delivered with driving energy. The Sanctus and Agnus Dei offer moments of greater lyricism and repose, with gentle melodic lines and a more transparent texture. The composer uses the full SATB choir effectively, with moments of rich harmonic colour and well-judged dynamic contrasts. The German text of the Mass is treated with clarity and reverence throughout, making this a substantial and rewarding setting for liturgical use.
