About Deus in Nomine Tuo
Jehan L'Heritier was a composer of sacred polyphony in the Franco-Flemish tradition. Deus in Nomine Tuo is a setting in Latin of a text drawn from Psalm 53. The composer uses a rich SATTB voicing to explore the drama of the psalm, which begins with a plea for salvation and judgment in God's name, recalling David's hiding from Saul and his enemies' pursuit. The text moves through themes of divine assistance and the downfall of adversaries, culminating in a vow of thankful sacrifice.
