About Deus in adjutorium

As a processional or entrance antiphon, Deus in adjutorium is sung at the beginning of a service. The text, a direct prayer to God for help, is the opening versicle of Psalm 70. It asks God to hasten to help and acknowledges the confusion and shame that should befall those who seek the singer's life and plot evil. Robert Hugill's setting is for a large SATTB choir. The Latin text is sung with a clear declamatory style, appropriate for the liturgical context.
