Deus exaudi

Leone Leoni's Deus exaudi is a sacred motet for two sopranos. The Latin text is a plea for divine mercy, beseeching God to hear the singer's prayer and not turn away from their pleas, promising instead to sing God's glory. The composer's setting reflects the earnestness of the text, with the two soprano voices weaving together in a devotional dialogue. This work offers a direct and moving musical expression of penitence and faith, suitable for intimate sacred performances or study by choirs interested in Renaissance polyphony.
