About Desconocida Esencia
Abraham González Ponce's Desconocida Esencia is written for a large choir of SSAATTBB voices. The music moves through a series of vivid natural images, expressed in Spanish. The text describes a primal, elemental force, present in snow and fire, sea and desert. It is the sound of the torrent, the flash of lightning, the roar of the storm, but also the whisper of grass and the sigh of pure water. This force pursues nymphs in streams and sea-nymphs in coral forests, bridging the abyss and uniting heaven and earth. The composer creates a rich, complex soundworld for this evocative and pagan text.
