Descendit angelus

Nicolas de Wismes's Descendit angelus is a sacred responsory for SAATB voices in Latin. The text recounts the Annunciation to Zechariah, where an angel appears to him, assuring him that his wife Elizabeth will bear a son who will be named John the Baptist. The angel reassures Zechariah, explaining that his prayer has been heard. The composer sets this biblical narrative with a rich, five-part texture, offering a reflective and devotional musical setting of a significant biblical event. This responsory would be well-suited for services focusing on the Nativity cycle or the life of John the Baptist.
