Der weiße Hirsch by Conradin Kreutzer — Lyrics

About Der weiße Hirsch
Conradin Kreutzer's Der weiße Hirsch is a secular German partsong for TTBB male voices. The text tells a humorous story about three hunters who dream of their success in capturing a white stag. Each hunter describes their dream-hunts with increasing excitement, but their real-life encounter with the stag is anticlimactic. As soon as they see the elusive white deer, it vanishes into the landscape, leaving the hunters with nothing but their dashed hopes and their horns sounding in the distance. The piece captures the spirit of a traditional hunting ballad with a touch of playful irony.
