Ivo de Vento was a German composer of the Renaissance. This secular Lied is written for SATTB voices. The German text speaks of a loved one, bound by chains and wearing a wooden coat, who refreshes the sick and the healthy. This beloved, named 'wine', is poured generously to make the world sound better and to bring brothers a strong drink in good spirits. The music would have been intended for intimate social gatherings typical of the period.
