About Deh sveglia in me, Signore

Scipione Dentice was a composer of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. This setting of a devotional Italian text is presented as sacred madrigal music. The SATB choir will express the penitent's plea to the Lord for a deep spiritual awakening, asking to share in Christ's suffering and martyrdom. The text passionately desires to die for the Saviour, believing that such a death will grant eternal life. Dentice's music explores the interplay between the sacred text and the madrigal style, a genre often associated with secular polyphony.
