About De profundis (parisien)

The ancient Latin text of Psalm 130, De profundis, is set here for a large choir of six voices (SATTBB). The words express a profound plea from the depths of distress to God for mercy and redemption. The composer, anonymous, has chosen this powerful text, a gradual psalm, to create a devotional motet. This setting would serve as a moving centrepiece for a service, its solemnity and earnest entreaty filling the sacred space.
