De battle of Jerico by Hugh S. Roberton — Lyrics
Refrain
Joshua fight de battle ob Jerico,
Jerico, Jerico,
Joshua fight de battle ob Jerico,
An' de walls come tumblin' down.
Up to de walls ob Jerico,
He march'd with spear in han'
"Go blow dem ram horns" Joshua cried
"Kase de battle is in my han'"

About De battle of Jerico
Hugh S. Roberton’s arrangement of the spiritual De Battle of Jerico vividly recounts the biblical story of Joshua and the Israelites' victory at Jericho. The text describes the march around the city walls, the blowing of ram's horns, and the triumphant shouts that caused the walls to fall. This SATB arrangement captures the dramatic narrative and fervent energy of the spiritual, making it a powerful choice for choirs looking to explore American folk traditions. The direct, evocative language and the memorable refrain create a compelling and engaging musical experience, bringing the historic biblical event to life.
