Das Schifflein, Op.146 No. 5 by Robert Schumann — Lyrics
About Das Schifflein, Op.146 No. 5
Robert Schumann’s Das Schifflein paints a serene scene of a small boat gliding down a river. The passengers are silent, each lost in their own thoughts. The gentle sound of a horn and flute arises from the forest, soon joined by the song of a maiden. Even the rowers keep time with their oars to the music. As the boat reaches its destination and the travellers disembark, they part with a poignant question: when will they meet again on such a journey? This SATB setting captures the peaceful yet slightly melancholic mood of the German text, with an English translation provided for wider accessibility.
