About Das Lieben bringt groß' Freud
Robert Franz's Das Lieben bringt groß' Freud is a charming setting of a folk song for TTBB male voices. The music captures the joyful spirit of the German text, which speaks of the happiness that love brings and the affection between two lovers. The composer's skillful arrangement allows the four parts to weave together, creating a rich and full sound that nonetheless remains clear and declamatory. The song builds to a touching farewell, its simple melody and direct expression making it an engaging and heartfelt piece for a male choir seeking to explore the folk song tradition.
