Dal profondo del core

This is a solo soprano setting of an Italian text, characteristic of the secular madrigal tradition of the Renaissance. The music opens with a direct musical expression of the text's deep emotion. The singer is called upon to convey the lover's constant sighs and sweet words of love, rising from the depths of the heart. The unfolding melody is designed to reflect the profound and sometimes painful yearning expressed in the words, as the soul struggles with cruel pity and the desire to surrender completely to the flames of love, even if it means losing oneself.
