About Da quei bei lumi
Cipriano de Rore was a master of the Italian madrigal. This SATTB setting brings to life a text of intense personal feeling, where the poet's love is described as a flame that consumes him, yet brings a sweet martyrdom. The imagery speaks of the beloved's eyes as sources of all joy, a cherished refuge for the soul. When the poet turns his gaze to them in supplication, he hopes for the light of that sun which honours the world, the very source of his living and dying through love.
