About Cum audissent apostoli
Maistre Jhan’s motet Cum audissent apostoli sets a passage from the Acts of the Apostles. The text describes how Peter and John were sent to Samaria to pray for the newly baptised believers that they might receive the Holy Spirit. The SATB voicing allows for rich harmonic exploration as the narrative unfolds. Jhan, a composer of the French Renaissance, crafts this sacred motet with a clear textual declamation, bringing the biblical story to life through his musical setting. The Latin text, concerning the power of faith and the coming of the spirit, is treated with reverence and clarity.
