About Crux fidelis
Scott Villard’s Crux fidelis for SATB choir explores the text’s profound meditation on the True Cross. The music opens with a devotional focus on the interplay of the voices, building a rich sonic landscape. The Latin text, a well-known hymn, praises the Cross as a unique and noble tree, unlike any other, bearing sweet fruit and sustaining the weight of Christ’s sacrifice. Villard’s setting offers a moving and reflective experience, suitable for moments of contemplation within sacred services or as a standalone motet for experienced choirs.
