Crown Him With Many Crowns by George J. Elvey — Lyrics
About Crown Him With Many Crowns
"Crown Him With Many Crowns" is one of those majestic hymns that instantly lifts the energy in the church. With its triumphant melody and vivid imagery of Christ as the Lamb upon the throne, the virgin's son, and the Lord of love, it is a powerful declaration of faith. Choirs often bring this out for Christ the King Sunday, Eastertide, or as a grand recessional hymn to send the congregation out with a sense of victory.
The verses build a beautiful picture of Christ's glory, moving from His heavenly reign to His incarnation and the "rich wounds yet visible above." This particular arrangement includes a soaring descant by Tony C. Eluno for the third verse. When the sopranos take flight on that descant line, it adds a brilliant layer of brightness that truly captures the awe of the angels bending their "burning eyes at mysteries so bright." It is a joy to sing and a wonderful way to lead the parish in robust, full-hearted worship.
