About Crossing

This unison setting of an English text explores themes of cyclical motion and transformation. The music begins by depicting the turning and unfolding of celestial bodies, perhaps the moon, and then moves to the geometric precision of lines and quarters that 'cross them, cross them now to shine'. The latter half of the text speaks of a snake's song and 'crossing light', creating a sense of cosmic return and belonging. Jon Corelis’s setting captures these shifting images with evocative musical ideas suitable for a secular choral programme.
