Credo by Antonio Vivaldi — Lyrics

Credo in unum Deum.

About Credo

This setting of the Credo text is for SATB choir and organ. The Nicene Creed forms the central statement of Christian belief, and this setting captures the theological depth and declarative power of the text. Vivaldi’s music unfolds the narrative from the assertion of one God, creator of all, to the affirmation of the Incarnation, Christ’s crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The dramatic unfolding of the text, particularly the Incarnatus Est and Crucifixus sections, are given powerful musical expression, leading to the triumphant declaration of the resurrection and Christ’s eternal reign.
