These are the words of Psalm 116, beginning with an expression of deep faith in God's hearing and help. The composer sets this Latin text for double choir, SATB divided into two choirs (a 8), creating a rich and layered sound. The antiphonal possibilities of the eight-part setting would have been ideal for the grand spaces and ceremonial needs of the late Renaissance church, particularly within the context of Vespers.
