Credete per schernirmi

Simone Molinaro's Credete per schernirmi is a secular canzonetta for three voices (SAT). The music unfolds with a light and playful character, reflecting the charming yet slightly defiant sentiment of the text. The Italian lyrics express a lover's bittersweet resignation to their beloved's cruelty, suggesting that even if scorned and fled from, the act of loving brings a strange contentment. The composer skillfully crafts an interplay between the voices, where moments of imitation and dialogue highlight the text's emotional nuances. It is a delightful example of Renaissance part-music, offering both musical interest and expressive depth for a chamber choir.
