Creation by Jacob French — Lyrics
About Creation
Jacob French’s setting of Creation opens with a vibrant textural interplay between the SATB voices. The music moves with a compelling energy, reflecting the grandeur of the text drawn from Psalm 18. It begins in Latin with the words "Caeli enarrant gloriam Dei" (The heavens declare the glory of God), which are then followed by an English translation. The composer captures the majestic scope of the psalm, describing how the heavens and the firmament proclaim God’s handiwork. The text moves from the universal declaration of God's glory to the more personal and spiritual aspects of God’s law, which converts the soul and rejoices the heart.
