Cor Jesu 2 by Anonymous — Lyrics

1. Cor Jesu, Cor purissimum, O ara sanctitatis! Cor meum purga sordidum, Infectum tot peccatis. 2. Cor mite, Cor humilimum, Cor plenum bonitatis! Cor tuo da simillimum, Da ignem caritatis. 3. Sed quid? Si vel seraphico Amore cor flagraret, Non tamen hoc incendio, Non satis te amaret.

About Cor Jesu 2

This setting of the popular Latin hymn Cor Jesu is by an anonymous composer. It is scored for SATB choir and its text is a fervent prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, asking for purification from sin and for the gift of divine love. The text moves from a plea for the heart to be made pure and gentle, to an acknowledgement of the inadequacy of human love in the face of Christ’s own immense love. It concludes with a powerful desire to be consumed by divine love, to die as a willing victim of that love for the Redeemer's heart.
