Confitemini Domino a6

Orlando di Lasso’s Confitemini Domino is a substantial sacred motet for double choir (SATTBB). The text, in Latin, draws from the Book of Wisdom and speaks of God’s chastisement and mercy. It urges the faithful to declare God’s wondrous works among the nations, proclaiming His unique omnipotence. The music reflects this solemn declaration, with contrasting sections that build in intensity. The opening explores the interplay between the six vocal parts, gradually unfolding the rich harmonic language characteristic of Lasso’s polyphonic mastery. The motet’s structure vividly portrays the journey from sorrow and repentance to confident praise and testimony, offering a powerful devotional experience for performers and listeners alike.
