About Conditor alme siderum (Hymnus)

This plainsong hymn, dating from around 1400, is a prayer to Christ as the creator of the stars and the eternal light of believers. The text, which has been used in the Liturgy of the Hours since the seventh century, pleads for protection from the treacherous enemy. Its Latin verses call upon Christ the redeemer of all, acknowledging his power over heaven and earth, and ask him to preserve the faithful. Sung here in a three-part setting for ATB, Conditor alme siderum is suitable for services during Advent and other liturgical occasions.
